Morse Code Encoder & Decoder
Morse Code
Morse code is an intermittent signaling system invented in 1837, serving as an early form of digital communication. It encodes English letters, numerals and punctuation marks through unique combinations of dots and dashes. Unlike standard binary code, Morse code relies on five basic elements: a short dot pronounced Di, a long dash pronounced Da, plus three types of pauses for separating characters, words and sentences respectively.
Morse Code Light SOS | Morse Code
Morse code features a simple and straightforward encoding design with low ambiguity. It mainly consists of two symbols: "." and "-", representing one short signal and one long signal respectively.
It is widely used in many scenarios, such as sending out distress signals.
When using Morse code for light-based distress calls, the rule is defined as follows: a steady long light stands for "-", and a brief short light stands for ".". You can then turn a flashlight on and off to send all kinds of messages, such as distress signals.
If the light flashes in the pattern of short on, off, short on, off, short on, off, long on, off, long on, off, long on, off, short on, off, short on, off, short on, off, it represents the distress signal SOS.
Since the Morse code for SOS is ··· --- ···, light encoding can be performed following the above rules. This code is very simple: three short signals, three long signals, and another three short signals.
Besides light signals, distress calls can also be sent by using sounds with two distinct tones. This method of seeking help is worth learning for everyone, as it may come in handy in an emergency.
